It is December 26th, and Lily and I hope that you had a wonderful Christmas Day with friends and family! We spent our Christmas Day putting the final touches on this week’s Bovine Ska which takes a look at Jamaica’s love for the soul vocal group from Atlanta, Georgia, The Tams! Though not as well-known in the States as many of the Motown and Stax groups from the same era, The Tams made a huge impression in Jamaica as artist after artist from Delroy Wilson to Derrick Harriott to Johnny Clarke would cut versions of the songs that our vocal group released in the 1960s and 70s. As we did our 21st Annual Jamaican Christmas show last week, we decided this week to steer clear of Christmas songs (well, not really), and give you a spotlight midway through our show of Sonia Pottinger’s magnificent gospel label, GLORY! During this spotlight you will hear beautiful songs of faith and devotion recorded from 1966-1975 sung by Claudelle, Clarke, Reuben Anderson, and Otis Wright and many more! Before the Glory Label spotlight we started off our show with two sets of mid-tempo ska and rocksteady, an uptown mento set, and a long set of JA rhythm and blues.
