Generoso and Lily’s Bovine Ska and Rocksteady: Lloyd “The Matador” Daley Memorial 3-27-18

Hello Bovine Ska and Rocksteady Listeners

The day after we posted last week’s show, we received the very sad news that legendary producer, Lloyd “The Matador” Daley had passed away on March 18th. We then spent the weekend reflecting on the amazing contributions to Jamaican music that Lloyd gave us during his career, and thus we assembled a two hour tribute where you will hear rare and popular selections from Lloyd’s Matador, Mistic, Syndicate, and Secret Agent labels that feature classic songs from Dennis Emmanuel Brown, John Holt, Freddie McKay, Alton Ellis and many more. We send our deepest sympathies to Lloyd’s family, friends and colleagues during this sad time. XO Generoso and Lily

Generoso and Lily’s Bovine Ska and Rocksteady: Jamaica Sings the Songs of Pomus and Shuman 3-20-18

Happy Tuesday Bovine Ska and Rocksteady Listeners!

You may not know the names, Doc Pomus and Mort Shuman, but you know their songs: “Teenager In Love,” “Can’t Get Used To Losing You,” “This Magic Moment.” just to name a few. During their brief seven year collaboration from 1958-65, Pomus and Shuman became one of the greatest songwriting partnerships in American music history, as they wrote hit after hit for The Drifters, Dion, Ben E. King, Elvis Presley and Jamaica took notice. For this Tuesday’s Bovine Ska and Rocksteady, we played two hours of ska, rocksteady and reggae covers from 1964 to 1977 of Pomus-Shuman from Alton Ellis, Derrick Morgan, Laurel Aitken, Delroy Wilson, Dandy Livingstone. PLEASE ADD OUR SHOW TO YOUR PLAYLIST HERE ON MIXCLOUD or share wherever people want to hear the beautiful sounds of a young Jamaica! XOXO Generoso and Lily

Hi Bovine Ska and Rocksteady Listeners!

We start off this week’s show by sharing with you the sad news that we only heard right before recording this show that Alex Dimples Hinds of the foundation UK band, The Marvels has passed away. We dedicate this show to Dimples and send our respects to his family. In tribute, we started off the show with The Marvels 1963 lovely ska cut for Blue Beat, “Together.” We then followed with two ska sets, our mento set, and a long set of reggae pulled by Lily that might be her best reggae set of the year. Our label spotlight is on Winston Riley’s WIND LABEL and there are just too many wonderfully produced cuts to share from: Hortense Ellis, Johnny Osbourne, The Ethiopians,The Sensations and so many more! PLEASE ADD OUR SHOW TO YOUR PLAYLIST HERE ON MIXCLOUD or share wherever people want to hear the beautiful sounds of a young Jamaica! XOXO Generoso and Lily

Hello Bovine Ska and Rocksteady Listeners!

We hope that you all had a wonderful dry weekend. To all of our friends out east, we so hope you made it through the second bomb cyclone unscathed. In your honor, this week we have put together a mammoth Generoso and Lily’s Bovine Ska and Rocksteady Radio Show which begins with two sets of top ska starting with a rare ska from the Maytals from 1963 that does not feature Toots on lead vocal, “You Make Me Do.” After those sets, there is a mento set with a fun theme that we hope you’ll like, and a long rocksteady set before heading into a spotlight of Fud Christian’s rare LA FUD DEL LABEL (1970-72)! On this label spotlight you’ll hear a couple of wonderfully produced tunes from Nora Dean, one or two from Glen Adams and many more! PLEASE ADD OUR SHOW TO YOUR PLAYLIST HERE ON MIXCLOUD or share wherever people want to hear the beautiful sounds of a young Jamaica! XOXO Generoso and Lily
