Generoso and Lily’s Bovine Ska and Rocksteady: George McLean’s Mid-Night Label 4-23-19

Hi Bovine Ska and Rocksteady Listeners!
Thank you all so much last week for all of your kind words about our 200th show! On this week’s program we started with two sets of Jamaican rhythm and blues beginning with a 1961 scorcher from Basil Gabbidon entitled, “War Paint.” A super rollicking mento set followed and a long set of reggae that has an exception cover of a War classic. Our spotlight midway through the show is on George McLean’s MID-NIGHT LABEL that is packed with mid-70s reggae goodies featuring cuts from Jah Woosh, Veronica Adams, The Mighty Cloud Band and more! Please share our show with all who love the sounds of a young Jamaica! XO Generoso and Lily

More sad news to share with you this week as foundation songwriter Renford “Rennie” Cogle, who was also known as “Hit Maker” passed away a few days ago. Rest in peace Rennie. XO Generoso and Lily

Generoso and Lily’s Bovine Ska and Rocksteady: Winston ‘Bopee’ Bowen Memorial 4-2-19

Hello Bovine Ska and Rocksteady Listeners,

Last week was a very sad week as we lost three distinct talents, Ranking Roger of the English Beat, Winston Watson of the Meditations and talented guitarist, Winston ‘Bopee’ Bowen, whose vast career that spanned over four decades which resulted in thousands of songs on some of the most important albums from the 1970s through today. Over this two hour program we memorialized Bopee’s life and those many recordings backing Gregory Issacs, Dennis Brown, John Holt and many others over his illustrious career. We send our deepest respects to Bopee’s family, students, and many collaborators as well the family and friends of Winston Watson and Ranging Roger who we will also honor in the coming weeks. Love, Generoso and Lily
