Generoso and Lily’s Bovine Ska and Rocksteady: In Memoriam 2020 12-23-20

Hello Bovine Ska and Rocksteady Friends,

We had originally planned to do a memorial show for all of the magnificent artists who had passed away this year after the holidays, but sadly, when the great Albert Griffiths of The Gladiators died last Wednesday, we decided to dedicate this program to him and to all who left us in 2020. This week we honored Albert, as well as Toots Hibbert, Millie Small, Dobby Dobson, Bob Andy, Johnny Nash, Lynford Hux Brown, , Eddie Parkins, Hubert Lee, Linford Anderson, Delroy Washington, Bunny Lee, Norris Reid, Naggo Morris, Apple Gabriel, and Derrick Lara. We send our deepest respects to their families, friends and fellow musicians. Here is to a blessed 2021 for all. Love and good health to you, Generoso and Lily

Generoso and Lily’s Bovine Ska and Rocksteady: Our 24th Jamaican Christmas Fantastical 12-13-20

Happy Holidays Bovine Ska and Rocksteady Friends.

This is our 24th year of celebrating Christmas and Jamaica on the Bovine Ska, and as last year we avoided all of the traditional holiday classics, this year we touched on some, while focusing all of our sets on reggae and dubs like “King of Kings” by The Silvertones and “Christmas Day” by BarringtonLevy. Our special theme this time around is on customary games and toys in Jamaica like: Ludo/Ludi, Bottle Stopper Zinger, Ring Games, and Juice Box Trucks! We wish you peace, health and joy this holiday season. Love to you all! XO Generoso and Lily

Generoso and Lily’s Bovine Ska and Rocksteady: The Solid State Label 12-1-20

Hello Bovine Ska and Rocksteady Friends,

As we are now in the thick of the holiday season and as we miss Toots Hibbert so very much, we thought to start with The Maytals’ 1964 ska for Studio One, “Christmas Feeling Ska.”  We followed that set of ska with another set that began with a recently unearthed cut from Derrick Morgan and Patsy Todd, “Raindrops Falling”  The mento set soon followed with another cut from that wonderful 1978 Horace Johnson and The Eagle Star LP, “Paradise Island,”  Lily’s reggae set ended the first hour with a highlight being the Hortense Ellis sung take on the “Movie Star” riddim, “Super Star,’ and our label focus for this week was on the late 70s imprint, Solid State. Stay healthy and peacefl XO Generoso and Lily
