Hello Bovine Ska and Rocksteady Listeners!
This week’s show has been many years in the making as we all love Otis Redding and his profound influence was also felt in Jamaica. From ska to rocksteady to reggae, Jamaican artists have done their best versions of songs written by the great singer/songwriter from Macon, Georgia. We gathered our favorite version of songs written and made famous by Otis and are presenting them to you on this week’s show. Prince Buster’s ska version of Otis’ “Respect,” Dave Barker’s reggae version of “Mr. Pitiful,” and The Heptones rocksteady version of “Dock Of The Bay”, are just a few of the standouts that you’ll hear this week. We hope that you enjoy the show. Please share this program with all you know who love Otis Redding, who left us way too young but left such an amazing legacy of music. XO Lily and Generoso

Generoso and Lily’s Bovine Ska and Rocksteady: Gussie Clarke’s Gussie Puppy Label 1-22-19
Hello Bovine Ska and Rocksteady Listeners!
On this week’s show we begin with two sets of tasty ska, including one of our favorites from Jackie Opel, “King Liges,” which Jackie recorded for Coxsone in 1963. A bouncy mento set followed and a long set of reggae specially selected by Lily which led up to our spotlight on Gussie Clarke’s GUSSIE PUPPY LABEL. An early imprint for Gussie that features top reggae from 1973-78 from The Heptones, Horace Andy, and The Crown Prince of Reggae, Dennis Emmanuel Brown. If you listen and liked it, please add this show to your playlist, favorite it, or share it wherever people love the sounds of a young Jamaica. XOXO Generoso and Lily
Generoso and Lily’s Bovine Ska and Rocksteady: The Jamaican Violin 1-15-19
Good Day Bovine Ska and Rocksteady Listeners!
This show has been many years in the making. Since reading the 2012 Jamaica Star piece on Jamaican violinist, Raymond Young, better known as “White Rum” Raymond, we have been collecting research and cuts to assemble this show that features Raymond’s beautiful violin work playing behind legendary artists like The Paragons, Alton Ellis, Derrick Morgan for such notable producers as Coxsone Dodd, Duke Reid, Prince Buster and Gussie Clarke. The first half of the show featuring ska and the second half the classic rocksteadys and reggaes, some of which you know all too well. In the coming months, we will do a show that focuses on the many reggae with strings selections produced in the UK. If you listen and liked it, please add this show to your playlist, favorite it, or share it wherever people love the sounds of a young Jamaica. XOXO Generoso and Lily
Generoso and Lily’s Bovine Ska and Rocksteady: Rupie Edwards’ Circle Label 1-8-19
Howdy Bovine Ska and Rocksteady Listeners!
For this week’s Bovine Ska, we started off with two prime sets of rare ska, including a never before played on the show cut from Derrick and Patsy, that was produced by Prince Buster in 1965 called, “Trouble.” Our mento set was mellow this week, and for the end of the first hour we included a heavenly birthday tribute to both Elvis Presley and David Bowie, both born on January 8th. Our spotlight this week is another stellar Rupie Edwards label, CIRCLE, that of course is filled with amazing versions from The Heptones, The Ethiopians, Johnny Clarke, and Jah Woosh! If you listen and liked it, please add this show to your playlist, favorite it, or share it wherever people love the sounds of a young Jamaica. XOXO Generoso and Lily

Happy New Year Bovine Ska and Rocksteady Listeners!
We wish you the greatest joy and peace for your 2019! We started off this first show of the year with two sets of ska beginning with a rare cut from Stranger Cole that was produced by Prince Buster in 1965 entitled, “Yesterday’s Dreams,” which we felt made sense given the new year. After a mento set and a long set of fantastic reggae picked out by Lily, we did our spotlight on Clive Chin’s ONE WAY SOUNDS LABEL, which features amazing cuts from Lloyd Parks, Vin Gordon, Black Uhuru, and more! Please add this show to your playlist, favorite it, or share it wherever people love the sounds of a young Jamaica. Happy 2019! XO Generoso and Lily
