Generoso and Lily’s Bovine Ska and Rocksteady: Dodd and Chin Quee’s Wincox Label 2-21-17

Howdy Bovine Ska and Rocksteady Listeners,

Somewhat hindered by the two day blackout here in Los Angeles, Lily and I still feel confident that we have put together a mighty festive show for you this Tuesday! We begin the show with two sets of joyous reggae covers from 1969-1972 of songs written by the great Burt Bacharach. We love Burt a great deal and know that you will dig these fun covers of his biggest hits. We have also assembled a spotlight of the WINCOX LABEL, Winston Chin Quee and Coxsone Dodd’s fantastic ska imprint (1964-65). Top cuts from The Gaylads, The Pioneers, The Mighty Vikings, and of course, Bob Marley and the Wailers. If you enjoyed the show, please add it to your playlist here on Mixcloud or share it online. Have a great week! XOXO Generoso and Lily

Generoso and Lily’s Bovine Ska and Rocksteady: Noel “Scully” Simms Memorial Show 2-14-17

Hello Bovine Ska and Rocksteady Listeners,

The last few weeks have seen the passing of Jamaican music legends, Nambo Robinson and Ronnie Davis and now, sadly, Noel “Scully” Simms, who began his career during the Jamaican rhythm and blues period, passed away on February 3rd. It is staggering the amount of music that Scully either sang or played percussion on during his long and storied career. We have memorialized Scully the best way we can by presenting to you a spotlight of both his extensive work as a vocalist, both solo and with his longtime singing partner, Arthur Robinson, and as a percussionist who had performed on over 700 recordings, many some of the most iconic in Jamaican music history. Rest in peace Scully and thank you. XOXO Generoso and Lily

Generoso and Lily’s Bovine Ska and Rocksteady: Ronnie Davis Memorial Show 2-7-17

Hello Bovine Ska and Rocksteady Listeners,

Just a day after we lost the great trombonist, Nambo Robinson, legendary singer, Ronnie Davis, passed away after suffering a stroke at the Savanna-la-Mar Hospital in his native Westmoreland. We honored Nambo last week with a spotlight, and we do so this week for Ronnie by examining his storied solo career which began in 1972 and continued through to last year when he released his solo album, Iyahcoustic. For his memorial, we examined his solo work and played cuts from the years (1972-1976) and we also selected songs from when Ronnie was a member of the seminal vocal groups, The Tennors and The Itals. Thank you for the beautiful music Ronnie, and rest in peace. XO Generoso and Lily
