Generoso and Lily’s Bovine Ska and Rocksteady: Jamaican Music for Children 5-30-17

Hello Bovine Ska and Rocksteady Listeners!

As the summer is fastly approaching and as schools begin to close, we thought to do our first ever 100% children friendly edition of the Bovine Ska and Rocksteady in our twenty-one year history. We will not only play Jamaican “ring songs,” in various rhythms, but Lily will also explain the games. We will have ska versions of “play songs,” and so many cool reggae, ska, and rocksteady versions of English nursery rhymes by everyone from Prince Buster to Eric Morris to The Gaylads for you and the kids to dance to this week. Our background disco will of the 1970s Sesame Street and Mickey Mouse variety which should add an extra layer of silly fun. PLEASE ADD OUR SHOW TO YOUR PLAYLIST here on MIxcloud and share it everywhere you see fit. Hugs, Generoso and Lily

Generoso and Lily’s Bovine Ska and Rocksteady: Wentworth Vernal Memorial 3-28-17

Welcome Bovine Ska and Rocksteady Listeners,

Sadly, last Wednesday we heard from our friend Dudley Sibley that his fellow Studio One performer, vocalist Wentworth Vernal of The Termites had passed away. To honor Wentworth, we used our spotlight midway through this week’s program to showcase Wentworth’s amazing vocal work with the band he helped form, The Termites, as well as his solo wonderful work with Studio One. We extend our deepest sympathies to Dudley on the loss of his friend, and to Wentworth’s family and former collaborators. Much love and respect, Generoso and Lily

Welcome to your show Bovine Ska and Rocksteady Listeners,

We begin this week’s Bovine Ska with two sets of ska beginning with a killer rare 1964 tune from Charley”Organ” Organaire entitled Red Sea in honor of his appearance here in LA this week. We follow those opening sets with our weekly mento set, and then a long set of killer reggae cuts from 1972-175 specially selected by Lily hreself. Midway through the show we have a spotlight of Coxsone Dodd’s small run but significant UP TOWN LABEL. Killer rocksteady cuts from Delroy Wilson, Alton Ellis, and Slim Smith all backed by the The Soul Brothers! Please share our show or add it to your playlist here on MIxcloud. See you next Tuesday XOXO Generoso and Lily

Generoso and Lily’s Bovine Ska and Rocksteady: Count Bell’s President Label 3-14-17

Hello Bovine Ska and Rocksteady Listeners,

Over the weekend, we were both under the weather in a big way, so to pass the time we pulled some fiendishly rare records for this Tuesday’s Generoso and Lily’s Bovine Ska and Rocksteady Radio Show, beginning with two sets of glorious rocksteady cuts and a spotlight of Count Bell’s obscure small run Jamaican R&B label, President (not the reggae imprint run by Eddy Grant). Even though this label was short-lived, there were some classic tunes released by Derrick Morgan, Yvonne Harrison Theo Beckford, and Lloyd Clarke. If you enjoy the show please add it to your playlist here on Mixcloud or share it on your favorite social media channel 🙂 We’ll be back next Tuesday as always 🙂 XOXO Generoso and Lily

Generoso and Lily’s Bovine Ska and Rocksteady: Ruddy Abrahams’ Wasp Label 3-7-17

Hello Bovine Ska and Rocksteady Listeners,

We sadly have to share the news of another talented vocalist who has left us too soon. Edi Fitzroy (born Fitzroy Edwards), died on Saturday, March 4th at the age of 62 at the May Pen Hospital in Clarendon. We began our show this week with a small tribute to Edi and we send his family and friends our respects on his passing. For this week’s spotlight, we turned to Ruddy Abrahams’ record label, WASP, that has some rollicking Jamaican rhythm and blues cuts from vocalists: Al T Joe, Lloyd Williams, and Jimmy Sinclair who are all backed up by the Trenton Spence Orchestra. Stay safe friends and we wish you joy and love, XO Generoso and Lily
