Generoso and Lily’s Bovine Ska and Rocksteady: Lloyd Clarke’s King’s Label 1-9-18

Hello Bovine Ska and Rocksteady Listeners!

We started off this week’s Bovine Ska with a tribute to the wonderful French singer, France Gall, who passed away on Sunday at the age of 70. As France’s real name was Isabelle Geneviève Marie Anne Gall, we put together a set of Jamaican rhythm and blues cuts, each song having one of her names in the title beginning with Teddy Brown’s pretty 1961 cut for Starline, “Genevieve.” After another set of rhythm and blues, our mento set, and a long set of rare rocksteadys, we did our spotlight on singer/producer Lloyd Clarke’s one label, KING’S. Fantastic soul and reggaes on that imprint from 1968-69 sung by Joe White, Roy Shirley, Willie Francis, and The Templets! PLEASE SHARE our show where you see can! To our friends back east, we hope you can stay warm and safe during this rough winter. XO Generoso and Lily
