Happy Jamaica Independence Day Bovine Ska and Rocksteady listeners!

Sunday, August 6th, 2017 is the 55th anniversary of Jamaica’s Independence and so, Lily and I will help you celebrate on this week’s show by playing loads of songs written by Jamaica’s about their beautiful country. Wonderful cuts like Laurel Aitken’s “Sweet Jamaica” from 1963, Joe Higgs’ “Invitation To Jamaica” from 1972, and of course, Miss Lou, Louise Bennett with her version of the alphabet, Jamaican style of course. Though great, we completely avoided the tracks on Trojan Record’s “Jamaica Box Set.” Lily will share with you some of Jamaica’s history and specifically a bit about the Commonwealth Games that were held in Jamaica in 1966.
