Hello Bovine Ska and Rocksteady Listeners,
Shortly after recording last week’s Bovine Ska, we learned that the sad news that singer songwriter, Junior Soul passed away at the age of 68 in Florida. Born as Vallen Smikle in Kingston, Junior Soul starting performing as a teenager and would join forces of Franklyn Spence and David ‘Scotty’ Scott to form The Federals. Though the group didn’t record a huge amount of songs, the quality of what they released was top notch, including a song that Junior wrote that would becomes a huge hit, “Penny For Your Song.” Junior would go on to have a long career as a solo artist, and formed the label, 2M LTD to handle many of his solo releases. Midway through our show this week we paid our tribute to Junior Soul by playing cuts from both The Federals and his solo career. We extend our deepest sympathies to Junior’s family and friends. Love Generoso and Lily.
